Psoriasis

Psoriasis is a chronic (long-lasting) disease in which the immune system becomes overactive, causing skin cells to multiply too quickly.

Psoriasis is an autoimmune disease that is common, genetically determined, inflammatory and proliferative disease of the skin. Psoriasis is enormously variable in duration and extent.

This accumulation leads to the formation of the scales & red patches that are often itchy & sometimes painful. Eruptions are sharply demarcated particularly on extensor prominence and on the scalp.                                                        It is predominantly found in females than in males. Patients with family history tend to have earlier at their age.

Causes of psoriasis

1) Genetic factors:-immune system dysfunction

2) Environmental Triggers:Weather changes, injuries to skin

Types of psoriasis

  • Guttate psoriasis – Type of chronic psoriasis where lesions are with size of water drops. They are scattered more or less over different parts of the body.
  • Rupioid, Elephantine and Ostraceous Psoriasis- conditions associated with gross hyperkeratosis that persistent, thickly scaling and large plaques.
  • Unstable Psoriasis – where phases of the disease is marked and outcome in unpredictable. Patient develop unstable form of lesions repeatedly and again develop classical form.
  • Pustular Psoriasis- Lesions with generalized pustule formation complicated by arthritis, exfoliation and constitutional symptoms.
  • Erythrodermic Psoriasis – Chronic lesions evolve gradually into exfoliative phase and extensive plaques covers almost all cutaneous surfaces.

Homoeopathy treatment

1) Arsenic Album :-Dry, scaling, itchy, skin, better by warmth. Skin inflammation aggravation by night & cold weather, better by heat.

2) Graphites :-Thick, rough skin lesions covered in sticky discharge. Leathery, cracked skin, constipation, eczema.
